Art at Gatewood

It is my goal that students are given the experience of being creators and learn that art is about ideas. Students will be exposed to a variety of themes that serve as inspiration for original ideas. Themes include historical events, fictional stories, art traditions from different cultures, as well as interesting non-fiction topics. Within this creative framework the students will be challenged by techniques and a variety of art media including drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, design, bookmaking, and mixed media. Elements and principles of design are woven into each unit with the intention of strengthening students’ visual skills.
