Emergency Procedures at a Glance

Email attendance to: Gatewood Elementary Office Staff

Evacuation/Fire Drill

Fire alarm sounds.

  • Stop working and talking.
  • Leave the room in a single file line. Walk quietly, do NOT run.
  • Teacher brings emergency backpack with class attendance. Close room door but do not lock.
  • Follow emergency evacuation route to designated area on Playground (see map).
  • Students line up at their numbered line on the playground with their class silently. Teachers take attendance. Hold up green card if all are present. Hold up red card if a student is missing. Hold up medic card if there are injuries or you need assistance.
  • Remain in designated area until ‘all clear’ signal is given.
  • Teacher leads students back into building.

Lockdown

This is a Full/Modified lockdown.

Full Lockdown

  • All students, staff and visitors not in classrooms go to nearest room.
  • Lock exterior doors. Close shades/cover door, windows. Lights OFF.
  • Students stay low against wall that provides the most protection. Be silent and still.
  • When and if it is safe to do so, email attendance to ‘Gatewood Office Staff (Katy and Stacy).’ Write Green/Red/Medic in the subject line. Note:
    • Green – all students are accounted for
    • Red – If you have missing or extra students. Note names in email
    • Medic – if there is an injury, write name(s) in email
  • Continue in Lockdown until ‘all clear’ signal is given.

Modified Lockdown

  • Follow all ‘High’ Level directions, except lights ON and academics are ongoing.

Shelter-in-Place

We are now in Shelter-In-Place this is not a drill.

  • All students, staff and visitors not in classrooms go to nearest room.
  • Lock exterior doors. Close doors and windows.
  • Students may remain in classrooms for extended period of time.
  • Email attendance kkhogg@seattleschools.org OR text 206-503-0369. Write Green/Red/Medic in the subject line. Note:
    • Green – all students are accounted for
    • Red – If you have missing or extra students. Note names in email
    • Medic – if there is an injury, write name(s) in email
  • Continue in shelter-in-place until ‘all clear’ signal is given via loud speaker.
  • Academics are ongoing.
  • Care for students.
  • Follow instructions.

Earthquake

Drop, cover under desk/table and hold.

  • Remain in drop, cover and hold until earthquake is over and/or you receive further instructions.
  • Evaluate and evacuate. When it is safe to evacuate, exit the building using evacuation/fire drill directives.
  • If it is unsafe to evacuate, place the red or medic card in your window signifying a need for help.
