To parents of 5th graders—a Tdap vaccine is recommended for children turning 11 years old, and is required for students entering 6th grade (or when s/he turns 11, if after school start).

Tdap is a booster to protect against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough).

If/when your child is 11 years old, please ask your child’s health care provider to give the required vaccination and enter the information into the state immunization registry. If your child has already had the vaccine, and/or if you have an immunization record from your healthcare provider, we can enter the immunizations into the state immunization registry with your consent.

More information regarding Washington State vaccine requirements can be found at the Washington State Department of Health website:  www.doh.wa.gov/communityandEnvironment/Schools/Immunization/VaccineRequirements.aspx.

Please contact me right away for help or more information. Thank you!  Nurse Tina
