At Gatewood we believe in supplementing classroom learning with extra opportunities to challenge our children and ignite their passions. We offer many opportunities for our students to explore their world.

4th & 5th Grade Camp

Most clubs are designed to meet before or after school, unless noted.  Scholarships are available for classes that have fees. Parents are responsible for transportation to/from all before/after school programs.


Basketball - After School Hoops

Join One on One Basketball at Gatewood Elementary for After School Hoops®, an ideal introduction to the most dynamic sport in the world.   Our instructors will not only teach your child athletic fundamentals through progressive drills, engaging cardio and fun competitions, but we will use these fundamentals as a platform to teach life-skill lessons that reinforce positive attitudes about effort, respect, cooperation and self-control.  After School Hoops® makes three guarantees: your child will learn, sweat and have fun! Classes are for a fee.

Cartooning Life

Learn how to sketch your everyday adventures. Experienced Mind Unwind instructors will take students through the basics of illustrating while nourishing children's natural ability to tell stories. Students will learn gestures, shapes, shading and pressure points, rapid visualization and drawing practice. Classes for a fee.

Game Club

Come play board games, card games, and party games after school.  Learning to play games teaches sportsmanship, literacy skills, math skills, and communication.  But most of all it’s FUN!   Learn new games or play old favorites in a non-competitive just for fun kind of way!

Guitar Circle Club

Seattle Circle Guitar School introduces a unique approach to music instruction: developing cooperation, attention, and skill in a creative and playful musical environment. Your child will play guitar in a circle as an ensemble and experience music making as part of a group. No experience necessary.

Hip Hop Dance

Make your move with One on One After School Hip-Hop. Students will have serious fun exploring various individual moves while building strength, flexibility and coordination through highly creative dance. The final goal is to function in a cohesive group and work together to perform for parents and friends.

Jump Rope - After School

Join Ropeworks at Gatewood Elementary for After School Jump Rope Club.  Kids work together in a fun and rewarding environment of goal setting, best effort and team building.  Play games, learn skills, develop new skills and stay fit in our fun-filled high energy program that really gets you jumpin! Any skill level welcome. Classes are for a fee.

Passport Club

Passport Club checkThe purpose of Gatewood's Passport Club is to get students excited about geography, to provide a springboard for other social studies in the classroom and to better prepare students to be global citizens in our fascinating, ever-changing world. Passport Club check days are generally the last Wednesday of school each month, September through May. See the Gatewood calendar for specific dates each month.

Percussion Club

This class will use congas, Native American drums, talking drum, box drums, tambourines, and other percussion instruments to learn basic rhythms and discover the use of percussion around the world.

Reflections Art Contest

The Reflections Program is on hold for 2012-13. In the past, young Gatewood artists could submit an entry in any of six arts areas. Only original works of art are accepted. The six art areas are: Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Film/Video, or Choreography/Dance. This program may be revived in the future.

Science Club

Science Fair


Contact: Nicole Sipila, Science Fair Coordinator

Gatewood will be hosting our first Science Fair Palooza April 12th.  All students will be able to present a piece of science writing to share with the community.  Additionally, students who are in grades 2-5 are encouraged to submit a self-directed project that will be exhibited that evening.  Hands-on scientific investigation and invention are the focus for the fair.  Over a six week period, your child will design, test, analyze and present a project that uses the scientific method.

Sign Language Club

Sign Language Fun classes keep both the child and adult in mind while taking the difficulty out of learning a new language! Students learn through art, stories, music, and games. All classes are taught by members of the Deaf community, providing both an educational and cultural experience. Classes are for fee.

Spanish Club

Join Seattle Languages International at Gatewood Elementary for After School Spanish Club.  Our instructors offer engaging and fun Spanish classes for children.  All language classes are primarily taught in the target language and focus initially on verbal communication before shifting to reading and writing.  Depending on the age of the students, the classes incorporate different activities like playing games, singing songs, storytelling and role-playing.  The classes are structured, fun and stress free and are designed to introduce and build vocabulary and speaking abilities. Classes are for a fee.

4th & 5th Grade Camp

This is an opportunity for 4th and 5th grade kids, teachers and the adult chaperones to break out of the daily routine, experience new things and grow as a person. Camp is for a fee.
