Gatewood is a multi-age, full-inclusion school with three grade bands – K/1, 2/3 and 4/5. Some content is delivered in a multi-age setting and some is delivered in a single-grade band configuration. Students typically stay with the same team of 2 or 3 teachers (loop) within their grade band for two years.
The teachers at Gatewood have been trained and are using the Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop curriculum from Columbia University. For mathematics, Gatewood utilizes Everyday Math with supplements from Jump Math-Singapore Math to challenge each student. These curriculums allow teachers to ensure that all students are learning at their just right level.
In order to help our students thrive in our ever changing world, we teach the basics - reading, writing, math and science, and also attempt to expand students’ critical thinking, cooperative learning, and an awareness of technology and the multiple intelligences.
The Gatewood model is only possible because of the support we receive from families, volunteers, Gator Aides (team parents), an active PTA and our local businesses.
